SELLING:-

If you want to sell your amphib – of any make – or a Dutton kit car we can hold it securely in our factory so it is available to sell on your behalf on a commission basis. We will advertise your vehicle – at no charge – on our web site and on other Facebook pages and the print media.

This will save you the considerable time and inconvenience of having to take potential purchasers out on a road test and with the amphibs on the water as well, not forgetting the inevitable tyre kickers and families just having a freebie day out on the water at your expense.

For amphibs we will demonstrate your car on the water and for all cars on the road using our DVLA Trade Plates and Company Insurance so you could save money by cancelling the road tax (SORN) and your road insurance.

When your agreed price has been paid we will pay you the outstanding amount the same day and release the car. It’s that simple! Email us requesting full T&C’s including our commission rate.

You can deliver your car to the factory by road or trailer – or if you are feeling brave the English Channel (using our factory slipway at 50° 47′.84N 00° 32′.33W Tides +0015 Dover, ML2.8: Zone 0 (UT)) or we can collect on a trailer using our preferred carrier.

TSCC can undertake any work required to bring your car up to an acceptable “selling” standard, for example it’s a good idea to have a reasonable length of time left on the MOT and the Boat Safety Certificate (BSC). If required we can arrange the updating of a BSC or issue a new one.

BUYING:-

If you are in the market to buy a Dutton Amphib take the hassle and guesswork out of it. Every car on our new web page will have had its numbers checked (VRN and VIN ) against our original documents still held in the factory going back to 1993. Unfortunately when some people sell their cars they refer to them as a “factory built” car when it was actually only sold as a “kit” This incorrect description falsely increases it’s value. We always check this prior to offering it on our new “Customers cars for sale” page.

Private sale or an auction?

Auction sale:-

Pros:- Once sold there is not so much chance of a comeback. But it MUST be described accurately otherwise the sale will be cancelled.

Cons:- typical auction cost fee 6% + vat so (7.2%) of sale price with a minimum fee of £600. If it’s a physical auction car has to be delivered to the auction house. If not sold it has to be collected quickly to avoid storage fees. As you are selling such a specialist vehicle you have to hope that there is that certain “type” of bidder that day. Bidders cannot take vehicles out for a test and will automatically assume there must be something wrong with it otherwise why not sell it in the “normal” way with a higher price. Auction bidders will also be aware that there is usually an extra “service charge” that the auction house adds to the sale price of around £300. If a car is withdrawn prior to an auction further fees are applied.

You selling privately:-

Pros:- You keep all the money.

Cons:- You will spend a considerable amount of time and inconvenience taking potential purchasers out on a road test and if you are selling an amphib naturally you would have to take them out on the water as well and not forgetting the inevitable tyre kickers and whole families descending on you just to have a “freebie day out” on the water at your expense. The family “freebies brigade” was a bug bear when Dutton was selling new amphibs. They eventually managed to reduce these by only doing demos during work hours and never in the evenings or weekends.

The standard advert in Autotrader magazine expires after 2 weeks and be prepared to get phone calls from auction houses attempting to get you to put your car in their auction.

Us advertising your private sale:-

Pros:- You set the minimum price. When potential buyers visit us they will already know your selling price, if they then attempt to haggle we simply say “that’s the minimum price and we can’t negotiate” if they do make a lower offer we will contact you to consider the offer.

Will save you the considerable time and inconvenience of having to take potential purchasers out on a road test and with the amphibs on the water as well, not forgetting the inevitable tyre kickers and families just having a “freebie day out” on the water at your expense. No unknown visitors to your property.

We do all the paperwork inc dealing with DVLA (V5C) and supplying the “sold as seen, tried and tested” sales invoice.

Cons:- selling fees.

Please email us on sales@thespecialistcarcentre.com requesting a copy of our T&C’s explaining our selling fees etc.
